COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Council Member Shauna Clayborn joined staff from the Equity and Engagement Department at the latest monthly Shine the Block event to strengthen community ties. The event highlights the City’s ongoing commitment to partnering with residents to address local needs — a key part of building trust.  City of Champaign
  • On Feb. 19, the Community Safety and Justice Division held a meeting at Centennial High School to discuss ways to reduce gun violence and strengthen neighborhood safety in Champaign. EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Feb. 26, Community Relations Manager Tracy Parsons and author Dr. Gilo Kwesi Logan visited Leal and Kenwood Elementary Schools to discuss Protecting a Dream and encourage students to reflect on their goals. At Kenwood, Chief Tyler gave guidance to parents and educators & shared practical strategies to support youth resilience.  City of Champaign

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leadership, including Mayor Feinen, Councilmembers Shannon, Pollett, and Pianfetti, attended HIRE360’s Central Illinois Pre-Apprenticeship Program graduation ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 21. The event celebrated graduates and highlighted ongoing workforce development efforts in the skilled trades.  City of Champaign
  • Lanz Plumbing, Heating, & Cooling, Inc. will close one southbound lane of Sixth Street between Stoughton Street and Springfield Avenue from Monday, Mar. 2 to Friday, Mar. 27 for sanitary & storm sewer work at 401 S. Wright Street. Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane during the closure.  City of Champaign
  • Mid Illinois Concrete will close one southbound lane of Prospect Avenue between Baytowne Drive and Marketview Drive from Monday, March 2 to Saturday, March 7, 2026 for sidewalk removal and replacement (adjacent to 2029 N. Prospect) (weather permitting). Southbound traffic will run on one lane during these hours.  City of Champaign

HEALTH NEWS

  • Saputo Cheese USA Inc. is recalling Great Value cottage cheese due to a pasteurization issue (by the California Department of Food and Agriculture) in products sold at Walmart in Illinois between Feb 17 and Feb 20; consumers should return them for a refund as no illnesses have been reported.  WAND
