COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Hudz Family Fun Zone in Paxton opened in late December and now offers an arcade with many games in a space that was once a pharmacy. Business owner Andy Hudson said the venue gives kids a safe place to play and has already welcomed school groups and birthday parties. ChambanaMoms
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Champaign Police announced that 31-year-old Anthony Miller died on March 17 after being shot on March 16 on the 1100 block of North Third Street — police arrested 22-year-old Zaire Herman in connection with his death. WICS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Illinois Senate Bill 1672 would require all kindergarten to third grade students to be tested for dyslexia—with teachers or parents able to request testing for older students. An education hearing was held today and if the bill passes it will take effect for the upcoming school year. WICS
- ➤ A proposed bill known as HB2827 would require homeschooling families to register with public schools and submit education records and proof of parent qualifications — if it passes, the law will also mandate immunization and health records for students in public programs and protestors plan to gather at the Capitol at 8 a.m. today. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A&R Services will close the westbound lane of Main Street between Neil — Walnut Streets to place topsoil in new planter beds along the south side of the Downtown Plaza Project while keeping local access including Fremont Street. Westbound traffic will be redirected north on Walnut Street — west on Washington Street — then south on Neil Street and eastbound traffic will remain unaffected with the closure starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 20.
