CRIME NEWS

  • Champaign police said a 24-year-old man was shot Tuesday afternoon on the 2600 block of JT Coffman Drive and remains in critical condition — he was in an acquaintance's apartment when an argument with unidentified men led to a gun being fired as he ran outside for help.  WAND

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Freshman Lily DeAth from Salt Fork High School won a state FFA award on the weekend for her Agri-Science Research Project at Mt. Zion—making her one of the youngest state winners in Illinois FFA history—while her brother Wyatt, a 2024 recipient for hay entrepreneurship, looks forward to running the family cattle farm.  WCIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • More than 30 AFSCME union members gathered outside Provost John Coleman's office in Champaign to protest the university's wage offer increase of just 0.25%—they say fair, livable wages are needed. Contract negotiations have been ongoing for a year after the previous agreement expired in September.  WICS

SPORTS NEWS

  • At the ongoing 47th Annual National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament at the State Farm Center, 11 men's teams and 6 women's teams play in 21 games while player Morgan McCammon said the event gives her a chance to live out dreams lost when injuries ended her stand-up career—she believes playing wheelchair basketball renews her hope. Coach Jacob Tyree said his young men's team is learning new ways to work together—he hopes this focus on accountability brings them success in upcoming matches.  WAND
