- ➤ More than 100 Unit 4 students were honored this week in ceremonies that celebrated their academic and personal growth. Fifth and eighth graders from historically marginalized backgrounds received personalized certificates and Bundt cakes — an effort designed to encourage their transition to advanced coursework. WICS
- ➤ Daniel Simons, a University professor in LAS, has spent his career studying how people miss obvious details when they focus on one task. He became widely known for a Harvard experiment (1999) that produced the Invisible Gorilla Theory (showing inattentional blindness) and that continues to influence research on human perception. - ➤ The Illinois Senate passed a bill that will ban carbon sequestration projects around the Mahomet Aquifer to protect safe drinking water. The bill has bipartisan support and now heads to the House—lawmakers stress that nearly one million people rely on the aquifer. WCIA

- ➤ A and R Mechanical Services Inc. will close Round Barn Road at the intersection with Country Fair Drive for storm sewer repairs starting Monday, April 14, and work will finish by May 16—local traffic on Round Barn Road remains open on the east side while all lanes on Country Fair Drive stay accessible. - ➤ Today, City Manager Joan Walls announced that Christopher Walton is appointed as Champaign's new Deputy City Manager. He will begin his role on June 2 and brings over ten years of municipal government experience—serving as the Village of Savoy's Chief Administrative Officer and as Champaign’s Assistant to the City Manager.
