- ➤ Organizers for the Christie Clinic Illinois Race Weekend in Champaign from April 24-26 say they need about 400 extra volunteers for tasks like handing out water or assisting in food areas plus a free CPR class is scheduled at Memorial Stadium on April 25 at 3 p.m. for 200 participants to learn lifesaving skills; volunteers must be at least 17 while the event, in its 16th year, continues to boost the local economy. - ➤ A Champaign-based foundation named for Christian Sheehan received a $50,000 state grant to support its program of free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms—this funding will buy nearly 900 detectors. The group will hold a volunteer event on May 3 at 8 a.m. at Franklin Middle School—volunteers will be trained by the Champaign Fire Department. WCIA
- ➤ ImpactLife officials reported blood donations have dropped below weekly collection goals—so they are partnering with the Champaign-Urbana chapter of the Knights of Columbus to host a blood drive for donors over 18 in good health at Holy Cross Catholic Church on May 4. WCIA
