  • Hotel Royer celebrated its soft opening today in downtown Urbana after years of reconstruction that preserved its historic design from 1923 and an extension from 1980. The renovated hotel now offers 131 rooms, banquet halls, a restaurant, a bar, a pool and a fitness center (according to Mayor Diane Marlin and Corporate Director Joseph Prior).  WAND

  • Local family-owned farms face challenges from tariffs on foreign imports that force them to cut costs and delay investments—Treasurer Michael Frerichs warned that without clear pricing, farming and related manufacturing may lose sales and put local jobs at risk.  WAND

HEALTH NEWS

  • Champaign-Urbana Public Health District said a squirrel in Urbana tested positive for tularemia (also called Rabbit Fever), a rare disease that can infect rodents, rabbits, pets, and people. Several cases of illness and death among squirrels were reported, and pet owners should watch for signs of sickness in their animals.  WAND
