- ➤ Champaign Urbana Theatre Company and Penguin Project are seeking 20 mentors for Mary Poppins Jr, a summer production staged at Parkland; applicants aged 11-24 must commit from May 17 to Aug. 30 as applications remain open until slots are filled. ChambanaMoms
- ➤ Champaign Park District announced that Gin Blossoms will perform at the historic Virginia Theatre on Tuesday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost between $39.50 and $89.50 plus fees, with VIP options available, and they go on sale Friday, May 1 via the Box Office and online. WICS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ USDA announced that EJ Water Cooperative has received $5,537,000 for a new reservoir west of Holland. The 48-acre project will serve more than 16,000 residents across seven counties using funds from two loans (totaling $4,577,000) and a $960,000 grant. WAND
- ➤ Second Street between Armory Avenue and Gregory Drive closed on March 31 for construction at 105 E. Armory Avenue; local access remains via Gregory Drive with two-way traffic in place. The road will reopen on Friday, May 8, weather permitting. City of Champaign
- ➤ Fifth Street between Springfield Avenue and Healey Street was closed on April 2 for construction at 502 S. Fifth Street; access remains for local properties. The road will reopen on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 — weather permitting. City of Champaign
