COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On May 1, Neighborhood Services hosted its 3rd annual Champaign Neighborhood Network Conference (for over 100 residents) featuring 12 workshops on healthcare access, environmental sustainability, food insecurity, a new Mental Health Response Division, and a Homelessness Prevention Blueprint, ending with a reception honoring neighborhood volunteers. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ United Airlines postponed its service launch from Willard Airport to O’Hare due to FAA flight caps at ORD; the start date is now Oct. 25 after previous delays moved the April 30 launch to June 1. Affected customers should contact United for details. The Daily Illini
- ➤ Acclivus opened its Champaign office at 2001 Round Barn Road, Suite C with hours from 2:00 to 10:00 p.m. and will switch to summer hours (Tuesday through Saturday, 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.) beginning mid-May to support local outreach efforts. City of Champaign
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On April 30, Justice Victim Advocate Agela Worthey from the Equity and Engagement Department and Blueprint Partners (East Central Illinois Building and Trades Union, Carle Behavioral Health, Champaign County Regional Planning Commission, Illinois American Water) attended Beyond the Diploma at Centennial High School to showcase 13 trades for students to explore future career paths and practice interview skills. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Paula Drive between Powers Lane and McKinley Avenue has been closed for a water main installation since April 13 and will reopen on Friday, May 22, weather permitting. Through traffic is not allowed but local property access is maintained. City of Champaign
- ➤ A southbound lane of State Street between White Street and Springfield Avenue will close for sanitary sewer installation at 305 S. State Street starting Monday, May 11 until it reopens Monday, May 18 (weather permitting). City of Champaign
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ University of Illinois students ended a year long fundraiser with a dance marathon where sitting was not allowed and events raising over $100K for HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital; the funds will help pay for pediatric and neonatal care (the only Level III NICU in the region). WAND
