- ➤ On Friday, law enforcement officers stood on Dunkin' Donuts rooftops across the state to raise $1.2 million for Special Olympics Illinois so athletes can compete at no cost. The 22nd annual event, with over 350 locations participating, has raised nearly $10 million since it began. WCIA
- ➤ Residents at Candlewood Estates in Mahomet reported dangerous electrical problems that have damaged appliances and spurred state inspectors to send a cease and desist order—management is blamed for not fixing the issues. Tenant leader Marcia Green and state Sen. Chapin Rose have stepped in as residents face additional problems, including a mother fighting an eviction over a swing set needed for her autistic son’s stability. WICS

- ➤ A Monticello man pleaded guilty to a fatal hit and run that occurred last November when a woman died at Carle Hospital in Urbana+ he was sentenced on May 19 to eight years in prison, with credit for 83 days already served and a requirement to serve at least half his sentence. WCIA
- ➤ Champaign police responded to reports of gunfire in a parking lot on the 1100 block of N. Third Street early Saturday morning when officers arrived at 2:24 a.m. and found a 22-year-old man from Urbana with a gunshot wound to his leg — he is now in stable condition as investigators canvass the area for witnesses and video footage amid property damage to two buildings and a vehicle. - ➤ Heart Strong Grocery received a $2.4 million grant from the Illinois New Stores in Food Deserts Grant Program to develop a new grocery store in Urbana’s Ward 3; Angela Bradley said the store will bring fresh food to a long-neglected area. The store will be built on the lot behind the intersection of Lincoln and Bradley—after Fire Station 3 relocates—and officials are finalizing the necessary state paperwork for construction. WAND

- ➤ On Memorial Day, government offices, post offices, courts, banks, libraries, and most museums will be closed in Champaign-Urbana while grocery stores, some restaurants, and outdoor pools remain open if weather permits.
