CRIME NEWS

  • A former Champaign County deputy, Matthew Stuckey, appeared in court on Thursday on a theft charge for allegedly misusing nonprofit funds; he resigned after being placed on administrative leave and faces a Class 2 felony charge of theft between $10,000 and $100,000 — he is set to return to court on July 23.  WCIA

  • In April, 250 Champaign diners voted in the 3rd Annual Champaign Vegan Chef Challenge—featuring dishes from over two dozen restaurants—and Siam Terrace won first place along with the most creative award.  WAND

  • On May 22, Justice Victim Advocate Angela Worthey and Intern Elise Gratz attended a Pre-K graduation hosted by the Regional Planning Commission’s Early Childhood Program to support a Blueprint client's family receiving wraparound services. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A & R Mechanical Services Inc. closed Round Barn Road at the Country Fair Drive intersection for street patching, but traffic and driveway access from the east remain open while all lanes on Country Fair Drive stay open. Work began on April 14 and will finish and reopen at 4 p.m. on May 30, 2025, though inclement weather may delay the project.  City of Champaign

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carle Health announced that its Health Alliance Medicare Advantage plans will end on Dec. 31, affecting more than 33,000 members while current coverage remains unchanged until year-end—this step follows a review that showed provider-owned plans are hard to sustain. The health system will offer resources during the Annual Election Period to help patients choose new coverage.  WCIA
  • Carle Health announced today that Health Alliance and FirstCarolinaCare will exit all insurance lines — including Medicare Advantage — by December 31. Coverage for current Medicare Advantage members remains unchanged as the companies work to ensure uninterrupted support.  WICS
