Good morning, Champaign. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 2nd of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Alumni and community members formed the Memorial Stadium Society to push for restoring the stadium's original name; they say the renaming—prompted by a $100 million gift from alumnus Larry Gies—disregards the tribute to local war heroes. Rep. Reick and veteran Jim French believe the change overshadows a sacred memorial.  WAND

  • Renee Elise Goldsberry appeared with the Illinois Wind Symphony in Foellinger Great Hall on March 25 — a highlight of the Krannert Center’s 57th season. The season features a free Youth Series starting Oct. 1 and ticket sales open Aug. 5.  ChambanaMoms

  • Parents in Champaign are urged to schedule school physicals as required for the 2026‑27 school year. Requirements vary by grade level (Champaign Unit 4 needs forms by Sept. 1), so contact your provider or local school for details.  ChambanaMoms
