GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Township Board approved nearly $86,000 in state funds for new flooring at the Strides Shelter to help keep it open through next June. Township Supervisor Kyle Patterson said the upgrade is needed as the 30-year-old building is worn—and closing it would force 74 people onto the streets. WICS
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ University of Illinois researchers linked urinary tract bacteria to prostate cancer growth by showing that the bacteria can turn corticosteroids into hormones that help cancer cells grow, according to a 10-year study led by Associate Professor Jason Ridlon. The team is now using these findings to explore new treatments for hormone-driven cancers and has published their work in Nature Microbiology. WCIA

- ➤ The Champaign Park District and Stephens Family YMCA will hold the inaugural C-U Triathlon on Sunday, July 20th at the YMCA on Fields South Drive—racers will swim 400 yards, bike 10 miles and run a 5K.
