- ➤ Emergency repairs by Illinois American Water will soon restore water service on the 1900 block of Joanne Lane—38 local residents will then have to boil their tap water for 5 minutes before using it for drinking or cooking. Water is still safe for bathing and washing until the boil order is lifted. WCIA
- ➤ Engine 251 of the Urbana Fire Department rescued ducklings from a storm drain on East Main Street Tuesday — after the rescue, firefighters reunited the ducklings with their mother, officials said. WCIA
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Champaign police responded near Garden Hills Drive and Summerlin Lane on Tuesday after shots were fired about a half mile from Garden Hills Academy, which went into lockdown out of an abundance of caution and lifted at 12:45 p.m. — no injuries were reported as officers continue investigating evidence found on the 1500 block of Holly Hill Drive. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, triple-digit heat indices forced many residents to use more air conditioning, Ameren Illinois said. The utility advised raising thermostat settings when leaving the house and using a smart thermostat—tips that may help lower bills and cut energy use. WCIA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Five students from Champaign Unit 4 Schools achieved perfect ACT composite scores of 36 while six others earned near-perfect scores of 35; out of 735 test-takers, 69 scored 30 or above. Acting Superintendent Daniel Casillas said the results reflect the students' hard work and dedication—an honor reached by only a very small portion of test-takers nationwide. WCIA

- ➤ Champaign leaders are considering eliminating minimum parking space requirements for new apartments and houses to help develop more affordable housing. A formal vote on the change is expected in the coming weeks — giving developers more flexibility. WAND
- ➤ Illinois Gov. Pritzker received a bill on his desk that could require new school buses built in the state to have three point seat belts starting in 2031 to boost student safety. The bill passed the House 83-27 and the Senate 39-13 and will not affect buses bought before 2031. WAND
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Researchers at the University of Illinois and Carle Illinois College of Medicine are using 3D printing to create custom-fit breast prostheses that can lower costs and quickly provide a mirror image of the patient's natural form. Dr. Victor Stams and his students, Rand Kittani and Daniel Najafali, work to print smaller models in about six hours and larger ones in about eight to ten hours. WCIA
