CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A motorcycle crash on Sunday morning on U.S. Route 45 near West Strong Street in Tolono killed one person—police said earlier reports of a possible DUI led to the crash investigation, with the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office assisting. WCIA
- ➤ Urbana police said they have seen more sexual assaults after first meetups through dating apps and posted a warning online asking residents to meet in public places, tell someone where they are going, and get their own ride—while stressing that clear, ongoing consent is essential. WCIA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office announced today that it will join a state-wide traffic safety campaign—over 200 agencies and the state police will increase patrols for speeding and other violations from today until July 31. In the past seven months, the office reported 173 crashes, including 51 with injuries and 5 that were fatal—officials urge drivers to follow speed limits to avoid tickets. WCIA
