- ➤ A charity bike ride organized by Concerns of Police Survivors will begin in Champaign tomorrow morning—supporting families and colleagues of officers killed in the line of duty. The four-day ride will finish at Chicago Police Headquarters on Sunday afternoon. WICS

- ➤ The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire outside a single-story home in the 600 Block N James St. on July 7 at 4:25 p.m.—firefighters quickly controlled the flames with one hose line and no one was injured as investigators review the cause. City of Champaign

- ➤ A 65-year-old Urbana man, identified as James White, fired a gun during a road rage incident near the intersection of Bloomington Road and N Prospect Avenue just before 3 p.m on Tuesday—he fled police, crashed his car at 3:07 p.m, and was arrested after both he and another person were taken to the hospital. - ➤ Air King, Inc. will close Healey Street between Third Street and Fourth Street on Friday, July 11, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. to complete a crane lift at 512 S. Third Street—local properties will remain accessible via Fourth Street. City of Champaign
- ➤ The Champaign County Board Labor Committee and AFSCME Local 900 reached a tentative contract deal late Tuesday that averted a threatened strike and offers 3% raises retroactive to Jan 1, a $3,000 bonus, reduced health and dependent premiums, 12 weeks of paid parental leave, and an extra floating holiday—although the proposal still needs union and county board approval for roughly 250 employees who have worked without a contract since Dec 31. - ➤ Researchers at the University of Illinois are using a new MRI method—magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging—to measure brain metabolism and neurotransmitter levels in a noninvasive way that may allow early detection of brain diseases. The study, led by professor Zhi-Pei Liang and testing various groups, was published on June 20 in Nature Biomedical Engineering and could help doctors tailor treatments based on individual metabolic changes. - ➤ OSF plans to close two urgent care centers in Champaign, its cardiovascular unit in Urbana, and its Champaign medical group office, with over 120 workers set to be laid off starting Aug. 8. If approved by the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board, the restructuring will begin Jan. 1, 2026 — OSF also plans to expand behavioral health services amid $361 million in losses since 2017.
