CRIME NEWS

  • Champaign police arrested 37 year old Rynell Frazier on Thursday in connection to a July 4 shooting outside a business on the 1900 block of W Bradley Avenue that left Champaign resident Martez Jones dead, and authorities said they will return him from Merrillville, Indiana for arraignment.  WAND
  • Champaign PD arrested 37‐year‐old Rynell Frazier on Thursday—he is accused of shooting Champaign resident Martez Jones outside a business on W. Bradley Avenue on July 4, a shooting that led to Jones dying during surgery, and officers said Frazier fled and was later found in Merrillville, Indiana.  WAND

  • On Thursday, hundreds gathered at Lincoln Square Mall in Urbana to join the national 'Good Trouble Lives On' event celebrating John Lewis and his work for civil rights.   • In Champaign, the City Council approved nearly $50,000 to pay 21CP Solutions for a study on police staffing and resource use following population growth and ongoing staffing challenges—this unanimous vote marks the latest effort to update the department’s strategic plans.  WCIA
  • Champaign has received a court order to secure and vacate the condemned Champaign Park Apartments that have been deteriorating for years and pose a safety risk to 100 residents. City staff and Cunningham Township staff will offer individual case management to help with relocation while the property is secured with barriers and closed entrances, with the process starting within a week and expected to finish in about a month.  WCIA
