- ➤ Champaign County residents will be able to register online starting September 1 to reserve a 15-minute time slot for the fall CREC event, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 11 at Parkland College—registrations close once all slots are taken and residents will receive a confirmation and mail ticket before the event. - ➤ The Wyndham Hotel is being boarded up as crews work on securing the building amid a legal battle. The property, closed since March due to vandalism — its owner denies insurance fraud allegations from a lawsuit filed in June, will continue to be under review. WICS

- ➤ Family and friends held a balloon release today to remember Michael Huffman, who was found dead yesterday near the railroad tracks in Champaign with a gunshot wound — police are asking local residents and businesses to review security footage and report any helpful information. WICS
