ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A crash on US 45 600N in Champaign County is causing lanes to be blocked for a few hours—Illinois State Police advise drivers to avoid the area. WICS
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials warn farmers that the drought puts fields at risk for fires and can lower crop yield during harvest season. Farmers must check equipment and keep extra fire extinguishers ready — a combine fire was seen earlier this week. WICS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city is observing Fire Prevention Week with a campaign that promotes safe use of lithium-ion batteries—buy, charge, and recycle safely—to prevent home fires. Mayor Feinen will kick off the events on Sunday, October 5 at 1 p.m. at Fire Station 1 on Randolph Street. City of Champaign
- ➤ Illinois American Water closed one southbound lane of Neil Street (between Main Street and Park Avenue) for an emergency water main repair on Monday, September 29; the lane will reopen on Friday, October 3 (weather permitting). City of Champaign
- ➤ The Illinois African Descent-Citizens Reparations Commission will hold a public hearing at the University of Illinois campus this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—the event will gather community input on harms to African Americans and advise on possible policy changes. WICS

- ➤ The Parkhill family has donated $1 million to create the Katie Parkhill and Family Fund at Mills Breast Cancer Institute to improve imaging, surgery and nurse support—this donation was announced during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and will help patients receive better care. WICS
