  • ➤ The C-U Safe Routes to School Project in partnership with local schools in Urbana is set to celebrate International Walk to School Day today, drawing a large turnout from students, parents, and community leaders including Mayor DeShawn Williams and the Chief of Police — the event will promote safer walking and biking routes and strengthen community bonds.  WAND

CULTURE NEWS

  • ➤ The Marching Illini from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign were chosen from over 100 national applicants and will perform as one of 10 bands in the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2026—news that surprised the student musicians.  WICS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ➤ Champaign Public Schools board said it will stick with JG Consulting despite a Des Moines lawsuit over vetting a superintendent candidate—JG Consulting added extra background checks and full disclosure of candidate materials while the board noted it can end the contract if further concerns arise.  WICS
  • ➤ Urbana Middle School is under secure protocol as police gather all students and staff inside—no one may enter the building until an all clear is given.  WICS
