- ➤ The Urbana Champaign Independent Media Center will mark 25 years of community media and art with a three-day celebration from October 24 to 26 at its facility on S Broadway—some activities will also be streamed online. The event will include workshops, live music, drag performances and a panel on media—highlighting the center's long history of offering a voice to underrepresented groups. WICS

- ➤ Champaign-Urbana residents are decorating their yards with spooky displays to celebrate Halloween and visitors are snapping photos of creative designs—especially on Prospect Avenue north of Church Street. ChambanaMoms

- ➤ University of Illinois alumnus Omar M. Yaghi, a chemistry professor at the University of California Berkeley, was named one of three winners of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry today—he is honored for his work on metal-organic frameworks that store toxic gases and capture carbon dioxide. WICS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ SNC Construction will close the right two eastbound lanes on Springfield Avenue between Westlawn and Garfield Avenues to perform storm sewer repairs—traffic eastbound will merge into the center turn lane while westbound lanes stay open. The project will start at 7 a.m. on October 13 and is set to be completed and traffic reopened by 4 p.m. on October 17, weather permitting. City of Champaign

- ➤ The Christie Clinic Illinois Race Weekend will take place April 23-25 with the theme 'Leave Your Legacy' and offers races such as a marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K, mile, youth run and eight multi-event challenges—giving runners and volunteers a chance to shine. Race officials said 1,500 copies of the new race poster will be available at the Health and Fitness expo on a first-come, first-served basis—so fans should hurry to get one. WAND
