GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois lawmakers are considering the Clean and Reliable Grid Affordability Act, which would link home solar panels and battery systems to form a virtual power plant that could lower energy bills. If passed, residents might see savings within six months—though critics like Senator Terri Bryant doubt the program’s benefits.  WICS
  • Champaign County judiciary will start a program on October 20 that offers a free 30-minute mental health session from Katie Martin Therapy for jurors who feel anxiety, stress or trauma after service — jurors can sign up confidentially using a QR code in the jury room.  WAND
  • Champaign County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the FBI Springfield Field Office is hosting a free seminar on active shooter prevention for local worship leaders — the session covers emergency plans and safety steps — and interested participants must register by emailing [email protected] WICS

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Carle Foundation Hospital campus near Lincoln and University avenues will soon change as the building for Pulmonary Rehabilitation and the Carle Auxiliary Resale Boutique is taken down—Pulmonary Rehabilitation will move to a new location at Carle in Champaign before year's end—and the Resale Boutique will close permanently on Dec. 20 with two other vacant buildings set for removal.  WAND
