Good morning, Champaign. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 23rd of October.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A guide lists Champaign-Urbana stores offering children’s toys, games, and crafts for every budget. The list names All Things Kids, Art Coop, Art Mart, Curtis Orchard, and The Treehouse — key local spots for shoppers — to support small businesses.  ChambanaMoms

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A group of University of Illinois alumni started a petition to restore Memorial Stadium’s original name because they believe renaming it after a donor does not honor students who died in World War I (the change came after a $100 million gift from alumnus Larry Gies). Army veteran Jim French said many feel hurt by the decision and want the stadium to reflect its true meaning.  WAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Feutz Contractors is patching pavement on Fox Drive between Devonshire Drive and State Street for an emergency repair project — the road closure that began October 20 has been extended until 8 a.m. today — while local traffic continues to access nearby properties from the north or south.  City of Champaign
  • This afternoon the City of Champaign responded to an agricultural lime spill on southbound Mattis Ave between Hedge Rd and Kirby Ave — the lime from a private truck at the Illinois American Water Plant led Public Works to contact the trucking company, dispatch a flusher truck, temporarily restrict traffic at the Kirby Ave intersection, and advise motorists to rinse off any residue from their vehicles.  City of Champaign
