COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The University of Illinois Extension SNAP-Ed program announced a holiday food drive to help families in need in Champaign County from November 10 through November 26. Donations of nonperishable foods will be accepted weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 801 North Country Fair Drive — the items will then be sent to local food pantries. WICS
- ➤ Champaign Police and local law enforcement agencies will join a food drive for the Eastern Illinois Foodbank from November 10th through November 21st — community members can drop off non-perishable food at the Champaign Police Department on E. University Ave or the Champaign City Building at N. Neil St. The departments are competing to raise the most meals. WICS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Illinois has launched a new housing lottery that reserves rooms for first-year students and uses a draw for remaining spaces for returning students, with those not selected placed on a waiting list. The system comes as demand grows and older dorms like Taft and Van Doren will be replaced by a larger hall — a change intended to ease student housing stress. WAND
- ➤ On November 4, Mikal Washington from the Equity and Engagement Department visited Central High School to explain the Martin Luther King Jr. Advocacy for Justice Scholarship and encourage students to pursue higher education. City staff added that the scholarship helps lessen college costs — it supports students who aim to honor Dr. King's legacy of social justice. City of Champaign

- ➤ IDPH warned residents after 11 people became sick from a Campylobacter infection linked to drinking raw milk that had not been pasteurized—officials urged residents to drink pasteurized milk and to store foods properly to avoid further illness. WAND
