- ➤ Champaign Park District and The H.O.Y.C.E. Center started a winter clothing drive on Oct 15th to collect new, tagged coats, hats, gloves, and socks for local children ages 0 to 17 at four drop-off locations until Dec 1st. Clothing will be distributed on Dec 6th at the Urbana Park District Wellness Center with registration available from Nov 17th to Dec 2nd—helping families manage amid recent SNAP funding cuts. - ➤ Wendy's will close hundreds of stores across the U.S. as interim CEO Ken Cook announced during a quarterly earnings call. Closures will start this year and extend into 2026 due to poor performance—around ten locations in central Illinois may be affected. WAND

- ➤ Overnight, the first snowfall of the season made commutes in Champaign County chaotic as slick roads and heavy winds slowed traffic + many drivers faced delays. City officials said plow crews began work at 3 a.m. and IDOT noted that heavy snow during rush hour made clearing roads hard + they urged drivers to be careful. WICS
