- ➤ On November 13, Neighborhood Services hosted a reception for neighborhood group leaders to thank them for volunteer work—engagement events rose 42% from 35 last year to 50 this year as volunteer numbers grew from 145 to 231. Volunteers logged 1,257 hours that helped stretch small grant funds and boost local cleanup and beautification projects. City of Champaign
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Illinois Department of Natural Resources urged deer hunters to use safety harnesses when using tree stands this season as deer hunting will soon begin; they noted that in 2024, 70% of hunting accidents involved tree stands—one hunter died after a 15 foot fall—warning that proper gear can prevent serious injuries. - ➤ Hardy's Reindeer Ranch in Rantoul was chosen by Good Morning America to represent Illinois in its 'America the Beautiful: 50 States in 50 Weeks' series. The segment will air Friday, November 21 between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m.—the ranch will be closed during taping and will reopen at 10 a.m. WICS
