- ➤ C-U at Home, a local mid-barrier homeless shelter, will host its annual fundraiser One Winter Night in downtown on Feb. 6, 2026 to raise funds for transitional housing and support services. Community members, businesses, faith partners and civic leaders are invited to sponsor, donate or volunteer—supporting the shelter's planned expansion of 26 beds. The Daily Illini
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Urbana City Council approved a permit Monday night for Total Energies to build a solar farm on a closed landfill that already hosts 5.3 MW of panels; the new 4.3 MW market-rate array will let Ameren customers subscribe for discounted energy—helping power the library and add tax and lease revenue—while the developer manages site maintenance. - ➤ Williams Brothers Construction will close John Street between Sixth Street and Wright Street and Wright Street between Green Street and John Street to deliver and install a tower crane at Illini Hall—closures will run from November 24 through November 26, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.—and access will be maintained for local properties and MTD bus traffic. - ➤ University Group and Anderson Brothers 3 will close the southbound lane of First Street between Logan and Marshall for a sanitary sewer installation at 309 S. First Street. The closure will run from Monday, November 24 to Monday, December 1—northbound traffic remains open and local properties will keep access. City of Champaign
- ➤ Champaign Police are joining state and local agencies to check for impaired and unbuckled drivers from today until December 2 during the busy Thanksgiving travel period. Officers urge drivers to buckle up, use safe rides, and report unsafe behavior—officials said the campaign will focus on arterial routes. City of Champaign
