- ➤ Chanukah in Champaign-Urbana begins with the first candle lighting on Sunday, Dec. 14th, starting an eight-day festival that honors a historic military victory. Residents can shop for candles, menorahs, dreidels (and more) at Sinai Temple’s gift shop, local stores, and big box retailers like Target, HomeGoods and Meijer. ChambanaMoms
- ➤ Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, will begin Sunday, Dec. 14 and run through Sunday, Dec. 21, marking the miracle when oil meant for one day kept the temple's menorah burning for eight days. The holiday will feature nightly menorah lighting and traditional treats like latkes and donuts (sufganiyot) as families celebrate their heritage. ChambanaMoms

- ➤ University leaders urged caution for students, teachers and staff coming back from fall break after a winter storm left about eight inches of snow on roads and walkways.
