  • Champaign Park District released a weekend planner with family-friendly events and free developmental screenings across Champaign-Urbana to help residents plan upcoming spring and summer activities—youth theatre performances of The Lightning Thief are held today at Centennial High School while an astronomy lecture will take place on March 26th at 7 p.m.  ChambanaMoms

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School districts in Illinois will need to add an Arab American history unit to their social studies classes starting in the 2026-2027 school year if the bill becomes law—teaching about Arab American contributions in government, art, humanities and science. House Bill 2997 passed the House Education Policy Committee on Thursday—by a 9 to 4 vote and now heads to the House floor.  WAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Champaign Public Works arborists carved a wooden ILLINI sign at the northeast corner of Walnut and Chester streets in downtown Champaign to support the Illini men’s and women’s basketball teams. The sign is part of a March Madness celebration and follows previous seasonal displays while inviting residents to take photos.  The Daily Illini
  • A and R Mechanical Services Inc. will close Wheaton Avenue between White Street - Springfield Avenue for a sewer repair. The work will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 24 and finish by 4 p.m. on Friday, March 28, weather permitting.  City of Champaign

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors are urging parents to watch their children during Poison Prevention week—almost 90% of accidental ingestions occur at home using items like Tylenol and cleaning supplies. They recommend using child locks to secure these items—seeking medical care immediately if a child swallows any non-prescribed medicine.  WAND
