  • Over 500 residents from Champaign county gathered Saturday morning for the 20th anniversary of Boneyard Creek Community Day to clear litter and invasive species along the creek—meeting state stormwater outreach requirements.   • Hotel Royer in Urbana reopened after five years of renovation amid pandemic delays — the restored 100-year-old building now features a lobby bar, event space, full restaurant and 131 guest rooms starting at just over $140 a night. CRIME NEWS

  • Champaign Police are searching for Michael Dillon, 63, who was last heard from on Feb. 1 at his girlfriend's house on Kerr Ave in Urbana, and a family member filed a missing person report on March 25 (officials ask anyone with information to call 217-351-4545).  WCIA
  • A Champaign County sheriff’s deputy, Matthew Stuckey, was placed on administrative leave after an ISP investigation found funds misused at the 10-78 Foundation — he is scheduled to appear May 22 for theft of property over $10,000 but less than $100,000.  WAND
  • A Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy, Matthew Stuckey, has been charged with a felony for taking between $10,000 and $100,000 from the police support nonprofit 10-78 Foundation — also called Back the Blue Champaign County — and he is on leave as the investigation continues with his court appearance set for May 22.  WCIA

  • On April 16-17, 2025, Tracy Parsons from Urbana School District 116 took part in planning sessions at the I Hotel Conference Center and helped shape the district's mission, core values, and strategic priorities for the next five years—addressing the evolving needs of students, families, and staff.  City of Champaign

  • On Thursday, the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District launched the Champaign County Health Atlas — a new online tool that shows health data in maps, charts, graphs — and tables. The platform gives officials and community members access to over 100 health indicators to track community health trends.  WCIA
  • Dee Slack (a cancer survivor) has volunteered for two and a half years at Carle Health Cancer Institute in Urbana and visits patients each Thursday to share stories, ease fears, and brighten chemotherapy days.  WCIA
